Billy Markus– the male who co-created Dogecoin as a joke in 2013– has just exposed how much he holds. He said he owns around 220k DOGE, worth around $42 000 at today’s rates.

Shibetoshi Speaks

Markus (currently “Shibetoshi Nakamoto” on Twitter) dropped the number in a tweet earlier today while clarifying his present function within the Dogecoin space. He stated that he does not speak for Dogecoin, nor deal with the project any longer– but is merely a community member.

That’s not to state he isn’t encouraging, nevertheless:

“I will safeguard those who I feel are actively making the space much better. I will dissuade those who I feel aren’t.”

Markus’s more casual attitude varies from his partner creator Jackson Palmer, who has consistently revealed disgust with both Dogecoin and crypto. In July, he said that the entire area magnifies the worst aspects of commercialism, improving wealthy figures even more while enabling them to unfairly get away taxation.

Dogecoin distribution is certainly extremely concentrated in the hands of a few wealthy holders, even relative to other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Nevertheless, Markus’s numbers would indicate that he is not one of them. Though not minimal, his holdings do not have the power to swing the market through a selloff, nor make him an enormous fortune.

Ultimately, the developer seeks to clear his leadership role from the community, both in terms of influence and responsibility.

“I do not owe a single person in this space anything at all … I like the fun individuals though.”

Dogecoin: Just for the Memes

Following a current Twitter argument sparked by Block CEO Jack Dorsey, Markus included that he lacks any grand aspirations within the area. He does not think that “significant breakaways from the business facility” are possible, as numerous crypto neighborhood members tend to think. Rather, he’s just included to “construct things, earn money, and have fun”.

Elon Musk echoed this viewpoint, saying he’s pro-Doge for that exact same factor. The Tesla CEO has consistently buffooned both “Metaverse” and “Web 3.0” as buzzwords, indicating that they don’t actually exist and ought to not be taken seriously.
